Day 6 (November 12, 2019):

Resort vacations have five key phases:  1- the “I booked it a year in advance and it’s so far away it doesn’t seem real” phase.  2- the “it’s almost here!” anticipation phase.  3- the “arrival in a new place and I’m obviously the least tanned, least in-the-know person on the resort” phase.  4- the “look at me - I’ve got this place all figured out!” phase.  5- and lastly and most sadly, the “it’s our last day, honey, and this is our last visit to the omelette station” phase.  Well, this was phase five day for us. And yes, it was indeed sad. We have been smitten with St Martin. The resort has been amazing, the weather perfect, the sand and water top notch and warm, and then those planes — oh, those amazing planes! And those endless takeoffs and landings...  Why would we want to return home to below-zero temperatures and work stress? We were at breakfast before 8AM again and on the beach by 845AM. We spent most of our time bobbing in the ocean, having re...

Day 5 (November 11, 2019):

It's amazing how quickly a routine develops when you're on vacation.  At breakfast before 8AM, on the beach before 9AM, in and out of the waves -- which were quite strong today on our beach -- and on and on it goes.  The "goal" for today, which is St. Martin's Day )recognizing the discovery of the island by Columbus in 1493), was twofold: to visit Islet Pinel on the northeast coast, and to be at Maho Beach for the 2:50PM arrival of the largest aircraft servicing the island:  Air France's flight 499 from Paris. At noon, we left for the northeast. The national celebration resulted in some heavy traffic, which slowed us somewhat.  Driving through Marigot, the capital of the French side, we saw many street BBQs and some live music.  The residents seemed to be having a great time.  Cars were decorated with the Flag of the Collectivity, and blue, red and white was everywhere. We had hoped to rent a double kayak to do an exploration of the Cul-de-Sac Bay, a...

Day 4 (November 10):

Our third day in Sint Maarten already! And we are loving every minute of this time and this place.  We made it to breakfast before 8AM and were on the beach by 9AM.  I just can't explain how much I enjoy sitting on a beautiful beach, going in and out of the warm, clear water, and watching airplanes take off and land all day long.  Those are two of my favourite things! We lounged and frolicked until 2PM, when we left to explore the southeast corner of the island.  Then it was back to the resort at 5PM to prepare for dinner at The Point, the resort's best restaurant - a real treat! Some photos of our resort, the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Spa, before the sun-seekers showed up for the day.  The hotel was completely renovated after Hurricane Irma, and just re-opened in January 2019. Hotel pool. The rugged coastline of the point on which the complex is built. Iguana. That is famous Maho Beach - it's not famous for it's length or width, but rath...
